The process is simple, quick, and completely painless. Here's what happens at a Shine & Bond event or private party:
Step 1: Choose Your Chain
Browse our collection of gold-filled and sterling silver chains in different styles — from delicate and dainty to bold and textured. Each chain has its own personality, and our team will help you find the one that feels right.
Step 2: Custom Fit
We measure and size the chain directly on your wrist, ankle, neck, or finger. This is what makes permanent jewelry special — it's not a standard size pulled off a rack. It's cut to fit your body perfectly, with just the right amount of drape.
Step 3: The Weld
Using a pulse-arc welder, we fuse the two ends of the chain together in a tiny, precise micro-weld. The process takes just a few seconds. You'll see a small flash of light, feel nothing (the weld point doesn't touch your skin), and just like that — you're linked.
No clasp. No closure. Just a continuous loop of gold that's now part of your story.
What Materials Are Used?
Shine & Bond permanent jewelry is available in two materials:
Gold-Filled — This is our most popular option. Gold-filled chains have a thick layer of real gold bonded to a base metal, making them significantly more durable than gold-plated jewelry. They're safe for showering, swimming in the ocean, working out — everything. Gold-filled permanent jewelry maintains its shine and won't tarnish with everyday wear.
Sterling Silver — A beautiful, classic option. Sterling silver may develop a natural patina over time, especially with water exposure. This is easily managed with a quick polish using a silver cleaning cloth. Some people love the way sterling silver develops character over time.
Important note: Permanent jewelry uses gold-filled and sterling silver materials. This is different from our fine jewelry collection, which is crafted in 14K solid gold with lab-grown diamonds. Think of permanent jewelry as your everyday base layer, and fine jewelry as the pieces you add for extra sparkle.
Does It Hurt?
Not at all. The pulse-arc welder creates a tiny, instantaneous fusion at the connection point of the chain — not on your skin. The weld point is typically positioned on the inside of your wrist or away from skin contact. There's no heat, no pain, and no discomfort.
Most guests say the hardest part is choosing which chain they want.
Can It Be Removed?
Yes, permanent jewelry can be removed if needed. A pair of regular scissors or wire cutters can easily snip the chain at the weld point. Common reasons for removal include:
- Medical procedures — MRIs and certain surgeries require the removal of all metal jewelry
- Airport security — though most permanent jewelry is fine and won't set off detectors
- Personal choice — if you simply decide you'd like it off

Sterling silver chains:
- Avoid prolonged water exposure when possible
